The Benefits of Gua Sha & How To Use it

Gua sha is an ancient Chinese self-care ritual that has found new life in modern skincare routines. A gua sha session involves using a smooth-edged tool, often made of jade or rose quartz, and softly gliding it over the skin to boost circulation, release tension, and promote a healthy, natural glow.

The luxury gua sha stone included in our Scandi Sculpt Gift Set or Arctic Glow Gift Set is made of stainless steel, offering the ideal weight for better grip and a smoother glide over the skin, and making it easier to wash after each use.

Why Gua Sha Is Good for the Skin

There are many benefits to using a gua sha stone. Even the act of carving out some time for yourself to practice some self-care and pampering is good for mental health and helps to boost feelings of wellness. Then there are the benefits for the skin, which include:

  • it improves circulation for that rosy-cheeked look
  • it reduces puffiness and encourages lymphatic drainage
  • it relieves tension in the jaw and temples
  • it enhances absorption of serums and oils
  • it helps to lift and firm the skin when used consistently

How to use a gua sha stone

You will need a facial oil or serum and our luxury, steel gua sha stone. Wash your hands and the stone before use.

1. Prep

First, prepare your skin. Cleanse and pat dry, then apply oil to create a smooth surface which the stone can glide upon.

2. Neck

Start at the base of your neck and glide the stone up towards your collarbone and along the jawline, using soft upwards motions and applying gentle pressure.

3. Jawline & Chin

Glide the stone from the centre of your chin out towards your ears.

4. Cheeks

Move from the side of your nose across the cheekbone towards the temples.

5. Under Eyes & Brow

Using very light strokes, glide from the inner corners of the eyes and move outwards.

5. Forehead

Sweep upwards from the eyebrows to the hairline, then out towards the temples.

6. Drain

Finish by gliding the stone from behind the ears down the sides of the neck and to the collarbone to help flush out fluids by encouraging lymphatic drainage.

Quick Tips

  • Use light to medium pressure—never scrape too hard or you could damage or aggravate the skin.
  • Practice daily or a few times a week for visible results.
  • Clean the tool before and after each use, using gentle soap and warm water.
  • Leave our luxury stainless steel gua sha in the fridge before use. The cold metal will help depuff the skin while offering a cooling effect.

A few mindful minutes with your gua sha can transform your skincare routine into a grounding ritual of self-care and rejuvenation.
