Certified and traceable chitosan
manufacturing & quality
ChitoCare beauty chitosan is manufactured by Primex Iceland. Primex’s production emphasizes environmentally friendly methods and full traceability from the fishing vessels to the finished skincare product.

responsible fisheries, strict supervision
Iceland’s fisheries are tightly managed under total allowable catch (TAC) within an individual transferable quota (ITQ) system. Science-based stock advice is issued by the Marine & Freshwater Research Institute (MFRI) and compliance is enforced by national authorities (e.g. the Directorate of Fisheries).
Discarding catch overboard is prohibited, and landing obligation and monitoring reduce waste and help protect fish stocks. As a result, the shells that once had little value are consistently landed and available for up-cycling.

certifications & standards
Our chitosan and manufacturing system are certified and audited to recognized standards, reflecting our quality and ecological commitments:
- ISO 22000 (food-safety management)
- HACCP program in operation
- TÚN “Natural Product” certification (Icelandic natural product standard)
- MSC Chain of Custody certified – products are traceable to MSC-certified fisheries
- Halal certification

100% Shrimp Project
Primex and ChitoCare is proud to be part of the 100% Shrimp Project, which aims to fast-track circular value chains for cold-water shrimp in the Nordics. The project focuses on enabling chitin and chitosan production from shrimp shells, meeting growing market demand, reducing waste and creating valuable products with a lower environmental impact.
